Town of Marengo, Wisconsin
The Town of Marengo is located in northern Wisconsin on the base of the Penokee Mountain range in the northwest corner of Ashland County on Highway 13. Sprawling with 72.4 total square miles, the majority of Marengo's land holds stunning farmland, forest, residential areas, and commercial shops. The rest of the town is made up of lakes, rivers, and streams including the Brunsweiler River, a tributary to the Marengo River. Marengo is fortunate to have the Chequamegon National Forest which is home to beautiful wildlife and scenery.
Just south of the city of Ashland, the town is near the stunning shores of Lake Superior and the Chequamegon Bay. A short drive to Bayfield and a ferry ride will put you on the famous Apostle Islands. The awe-inspiring sea caves are also nearby to explore, either by kayak in the summer or trek in the winter.
Marengo has plenty of hiking and outdoor activities itself, such as fishing, hunting, snow mobile paths and is even near the North Country Trail that stretches from New York to North Dakota. If the outdoorsman in you is not yet satisfied, there are numerous day trips, such as Copper Falls State Park in Ashland County, that may do the trick. We hope to see you soon!
There are a few things happening in the Town of Marengo, such as:
It is with a heavy heart to say goodbye to a good friend and Chairman of the Town of Morse, Jeff Ehrhardt.
Jeff helped me out immensely with Town Business. He was a true friend and a great mentor and he will be truly missed.
Please keep the family in your thoughts and prayers.
I can not stress enough how important that the November 2024 Meeting will be and should be attended. I have made the suggestion to start the process of recinding the ATV/UTV/Snowmobile Ordinance that we put in place a few years ago. I see that the roads are being tore up and abused. This does not seem to be getting better so I can see no further option but to pull the plug on it. It is not working, In fact it's getting worse. The process will be started at the next meeting. This is your time to be heard.
Let's bring attention, once again, to the fact that we are having some major issues with ATV, Snowmobile and UTV traffic. Individuals are not following the rules according to the Ordinance that was created a couple of years ago. It has been brought to the attention of the Town Board of Marengo that some properties were basically vandalized by users of Recreational Vehicles.
I wanted to bring attention to this matter because Law Enforcement will be getting more calls to address the problem and give tickets out and possibly some jail time to anyone being caught vandalizing properties. If you know of anyone doing this, please talk to them. Parents, talk to your children if you know of this happening. Tickets will start to be issued.
Also, people in motor vehicles that are fish tailing back and forth on gravel roads or black spin out marks on roads. This is cause for tickets to be issued as well. Roads are very expensive to maintain and we do not want to increase taxes to manage repairs of the roads due to very inconsiderate people. Once again, if you know of anyone doing this, please talk to them because people in the township are ready to fight back against this.
This has become an ongoing problem and the board is considering making all town roads prohibited to ATV, UTV and Snowmobile Traffic. If you would like to talk about this further, please feel free to give me a call to discuss. We do know of some of the culprits but we are hoping that this will work itself out.
Also, there as been a lot of vandalism going on. This will not be tolerated! Mailboxes were hit and taken out, Deer intentionally being hit on roads, a local church was vandalized and all of this is truly unacceptable.
Once again, please talk to your neighbors or children if you know of this happening.
Thank you for your help in this matter and please feel free to pass this e-mail along.

Stephen Walston
